Back to TopStrategy Information

  • There are no mirror matches - one player always takes the role of Ragnaros and the other plays Nefarian.

  • Nefarian starts at 30 Health + 30 Armor and with 4 mana. His Hero Power - Wild Magic - adds a random spell to his hand, which costs 0 mana.

  • Ragnaros starts with 60 Health and no Armor. His starting Hero Power is Molten Rage, which summons a Magma Rager. However, he also starts with a 2/6 weapon Sulfuras. The weapon's Deathrattle changes his Hero Power to DIE, INSECT! - standard "deal 8 damage to a random enemy".

  • Nefarian is usually the aggressor - he starts with more mana, he can play things faster and has more powerful early game. His main task is to kill Ragnaros as quickly as possible. Don't wait around, try to rush the opponent down quickly. Try to play around the AoEs if possible - Ragnaros can have cards like Living Bomb (you can counter that one with Shadowflame), Brawl and Flamestrike. Mulligan for 4-5 mana minions to get a strong start and rush the opponent. Prioritize minions early, don't use Hero Power unless you have spare mana. Hero Power will mostly fish for a finisher cards, like burn spells.

  • Ragnaros needs to play defensively for the first few turns. Until he gets his actual Hero Power (after six turns), his Hero Power becomes much more powerful and he should start turning the game around. When playing Ragnaros, you want to play the Control game. Do the trading, try to remove the Nefarian's minions and protect your life total. You also have to be a bit efficient, e.g. don't waste big AoE removal weak board, unless that's your only option to survive. Mulligan heavily for the powerful early game plays. Ragnaros deck has a lot of 2-3 mana custom minions that are incredibly strong - e.g. Living Bomb, Living Lava and Son of the Flame. Don't keep cards like Flame Imp or Lava Burst, because they are very weak in this Brawl.
