Who do you think will win this year's Winter Championship?

As the developer did late last year, Blizzard has once again enabled the Choose Your Champion program for the upcoming Hearthstone Championship Tour Winter Championship. Participants must choose one of the 16 competitors at the event and are awarded a single pack just for partaking in the event. You'll subsequently be rewarded for each stage (quarterfinals, semifinals, finals) your selection progresses through for up to four free Mean Streets of Gadgetzan packs.

We're told that packs will be sent to accounts in the week following the event.

This year's tournament heads to the Bahamas, a first for the esport as all regions now come together not only for the World Championship but for each of the seasonal finals.

We previously spoke with Drew Symonds, Associate PR Manager for Blizzard Esports and he clarified exactly how this will work. "At the Winter Championship four players from each of the four major regions will be represented. In the Round of Sixteen, the sixteen players will be divided into four groups," he explains, "each of which will have representation from each region. The top four finishers in the Winter Championship will qualify for the 2017 Hearthstone World Championship. It is possible that all four of these qualified players could come from a single region."

Those who attend the event in person and RSVP will be given a limited edition card back that is only available at official HCT events along with the typical Power Core card back given at all major Hearthstone tournaments.

The Winter Championship begins with a double-elimination group stage, followed by a single-elimination bracket. Each group consists of four competitors, one from each of our regions. Each match will be best-of-seven using the Conquest format with one ban. Each player will bring five decks to play with for each match, and they and their opponent will be able to ban one of each other’s decks and compete with the remaining decks. Groups were seeded based on Hearthstone Competitive Points, with the top point earner from each region placed in their own group and the remainder of the group being filled in order of the players’ regional seeds.

The Championship takes place March 23 to 26 according to the following schedule:

  • Day 1 (March 23) at 7:00 a.m. PDT – Groups A and B
  • Day 2 (March 24) at 7:00 a.m. PDT – Groups C and D
  • Day 3 (March 25) at 7:00 a.m. PDT – Group Decider Matches and Quarterfinals
  • Day 4 (March 26) at 9:00 a.m. PDT – Semifinals and Finals
