It reminds me a bit of the Hungry Dragon. Both are 4 mana 5/6 Dragons with a downside. On the one hand, the downside is much bigger on this one – I’d rather give my opponent a random 1-drop than two Coins. On the other hand, Hungry Dragon’s downside triggers on the Battlecry and this on the Deathrattle, which is a big difference.
That said, the only application I can see for this is some kind of Aggro Dragon deck. Then a 4 mana 5/6 will be solid, and the Dragon tag might push it into “playable” territory. That’s still a stretch, because the downside is massive. Giving your opponent two Coins is already bad – it means that they can develop a threat faster, play that mass AoE two turns earlier, not to mention classes with spell synergies. Like, Miracle Rogue runs Gadgetzan Auctioneer, Highlander Priest runs Lyra the Sunshard or Auctioneer (or sometimes both), Mage decks run Mana Wyrm and they might also run Archmage Antonidas etc. Not to mention the Quest Mage, where this card = two free triggers on the Quest.
However, the problem here is that 4 mana 5/6 is not THAT good. I mean, of course, it’s solid, but it’s not “game-winning good”, and that’s something you would expect from a 4-drop with such a massive downside.
So, will this card see play? I honestly doubt it. Dragon tag is its only redeeming quality, and that’s not really relevant right now, as there is really no such thing as “Aggro Dragon” deck. And in slower decks you’d rather just run Twilight Drake, which will often have a similar stat-line without potentially screwing you over by giving your opponent free mana. The only deck that might ever consider using it so far was Dragon Warrior. I mean, we still have a lot of cards left and we might see another aggressive Dragon card that will push it (in something like Aggro/Tempo Dragon Priest), but I have a hard time seeing that.
It’s not the worst card in the set, but it’s just not worth to play it. If you want an overstatted minion with a downside, run Bittertide Hydra instead.
Card rating: 2/5
