The tendency of warlocks to hurt themselves in order to damage their foes is so pervasive, it's even found in cards games now.

This is the Warlock's main tool for board control. 3 damage can take out a large number of minions and possibly even clear the board. Also at 3 damage it's slightly more powerful than most AoE cards, which deal 2 damage most of the time. Especially useful against opponents who love to swarm you with cheap, weak minions such as Murloc decks.

Since it damages all minions, I recommend using this only when you are at a severe disadvantage in minion count, and don't forget to attack with your own minions first.

This can be used to reduce both hero's hp to 0 at the same time. This results in a double loss.

I'll often blow everything to damage my opponent low enough to have this kill them if I can see there's no way I can win.

Edit 1/29/14 : This post was made before the ranking system with the 25 levels and stars and such. It would appear doing this to bring about a double loss (as far as the xp gained is concerned) does not cause a loss of stars.

This is by far my favourite way of finishing an opponent. Watching the board clear in addition to winning is like fireworks going off.
