link to warlock's summon doomguard spell
The flavor text alludes to the old WoW Warlock Summon Doomguard spell which worked by requiring multiple party members to click on a summon cogwheel and one of the clicking party members would be killed so that the demon would enter the game.
Oh the good old days of Ritual of Doom roulette, gambling with the lives of others for the win!
"Summoning a doomguard is risky. Someone is going to die."
It looks similar to psycho drug in Fallout...
If you're playing warlock how it's supposed to be played, this card is perfect. As a warlock, you don't want cards sitting in your hand. That's taking away from power you could have out on the field.
Thus, this guy's downside... isn't really a downside at all. By turn 5, you shouldn't have many cards left in your hand. Thus, with his discard clause gone, he's a 5/7 charge for 5 mana. That is BRUTAL.
Prety useless. Had played it, several times, in several ocasions, more downsides than benefits. Once, took out of my hand 2 Taunts, and enemy summoned an charge +5 beast. I lost that game, but shurly won it haven't used that card. In my case, 2-3 times similar scenarios happened. Only once, put it at good use, after summoning portal, took out of my hand two +1/+1 cards. Still, to risky, there are a lot of better cards, with better planing. If Blizz change it, at least 1 card to be discarded, ok, in taht scenario...
This card is being used mostly in rush decks because of its Charge, low-cost and insane damage potential. It can be somehow compared to Leeroy Jenkins but its better than Leeroy in control-ish decks (because with 7 health it actually survives for more than 1 turn). I would recommend this card to all warlocks out there because if you play smart, the discard mechanic should be easily avoided.
You have to know how to use it or in what deck for ex: The zoo deck's priority is to get rid of ye cards as fastest possible because then you can get a 5mana 5/7 with charge without any drawback and also Handlocks use it for a finisher. Also this is my favourite Hearthstone card so far.
If you want to play this big guy from your hand, make sure he's your last card in hand. If not, you'll probably want to use
to avoid the negative battlecry.
After all this time this card is still not nerfed... I'm actually quite impressed
