Cabal Shadow Priest
Take control of an enemy minion that has 2 or less Attack.
You never know who may be secretly working for the Cabal....
This card is used in
31.31% of all Priest decks
I like how the art for the elite card is actually different to a larger extent than others.
The Cabal are (were?) a shadowy organisation led by
, responsible for the summoning of the being
into the world.
Definitely my favorite animation. The color contrast really makes this card's animation more visible than most. So glad Heathhead was able to add the animations here!
This card can be very useful in some situations.
For example, you can control a
, which is a taunt.
to mess up a hunter or another priest's buffing plans.
if your opponent happens have a taunt wall to protect it.
Of course, these are just some suggestions, as there are many more things that can be controlled.
This card is extremely good right now, because of all the rushy decks.
Of course, it can take the Loot Horder, but it can also take some very valuable cards.
Both Bloodmage Thalnos and Nat Pagle are Legendaries that are gaining popularity. Snagging one of these bad boys is value.
But the biggest reason to take the Cabal Shadow Priest is the Harvest Golem. This bugger is in almost every deck I see nowadays, because the Golem is *good*. Very good. Most removal will still trigger the 2/1 Golem, which is a pain in the butt to deal with. But the Cabal Shadow Priest snags the whole Golem nice and easy.
Warning: it does not seem to work on stealthed minions (
I originally shied away from Cabal Shadow Priest for the reasons stated above, which is the simple fact that mind controlling a 2 attack minion is rare at turn 6 because of the fact that by turn 6 you're seeing Chillwind Yetis and Azure Drakes, e.t.c.
HOWEVER. There is one simple card that I am now combining with Cabal in my constructed plays which makes it unbelievable. Toss 2 Cabals and 2
into your deck and watch with satisfaction as you bring a Ragnaros down to 2 health and snag it for 8 mana, while creating board presence. Granted, this kind of play weakens your target but if you play it right, you'll be mind controlling minions with taunt and active effects mainly (such as Ragnaros firing off 8 damage each turn no matter his attack value), or simply use this as a super-effective form of removal.
I would note that because of the fact that you're using two cards for this combo, it would be a mistake to rely on these two cards alone for synergy. I would suggest making sure you have extra cards like Shadow Madness, Shadow Word: Pain and Death, for taking advantage of the attack/health swap effect of Crazed Alchemist. If you're playing a really control-oriented deck, try even tossing in a Stampeding Kodo for the lols.
The controlled minion does not get charge like
Use this on 4 horseman. Become a god.
Potentially your most valued player in any given game, Cabal has the potential to turn a match around when it's borderline by pulling a key minion away from your opponent. Keep in mind that when you still a creature from an opponent you are effectively killing it while denying any deathrattles and replicating it on your side of the field. That's a powerful effect, especially when it's attached to a 4/5 body at the incredibly efficient price of six mana. Ideal targets are creatures that would be pesky to deal with otherwise such as harvest golem.
Another example of an ideal target would be Maexna: the act of stealing this six drop killing machine from my opponents has won me games on its own. On the other hand remember that sometimes denying your opponent access to something is better than acquiring a useful asset. For instance, if my opponent had a field full of deathrattles and had just dropped a baron, I would target the baron before I would a harvest golem, even though a harvest golem even if I wasn't running any deathrattles of my own.
This is pretty much the enhanced, Priest-only version of
. Costs 1 more mana but you gain +1 Attack AND you get to choose which viable target you want to neutralize!
With Naxx cards being in vogue now, using Ms. Cabal to take control of an opponent's
is a fantastic way to put a dent in your opponent's deck. The Baron is often an important, centralizing card in any deck that uses it, so it's sure to leave your opponent writhing in anger when you take away their deck's backbone. If you're sure you will be going up against someone with Baron Rivendare make sure to pack plenty of Leper Gnomes and Loot Hoarders. I haven't had to chance to try it out yet, but does anyone know if having two Baron Rivendares (one in your own deck, the other controlled by the cabal priest) stacks the effect so deathrattles trigger more than twice?
Conversely, I suppose taking over
is a good choice, too, but be careful with their deathrattle effect. Very situational, I'd think, but it could save you in a pinch if you really need a taunter on your side and/or a taunter away from your opponent's field.
This card is absolutely bonkers in the mirror match. It's in the removal dead zone, it's got a beefy 5 health that trades with a lot of useful mid-game drops like the Azure Drake, it steals Northshire Cleric, Lightwell and, if it just hit the board, Lightwarden. It's powerful enough to be a threat, but not nasty enough to be worth dropping a Mind Control on. Fantastic stuff.
Even outside the mirror match, the sheer number of awesome things this steals is mind-boggling. When I first saw the card I didn't bother with it, but as soon as I started playing with it I felt like a moron for ever doubting her. I can't tell you how many times the board has gone from "bad" to "Now I have a 4/5 and a Void Walker, ho ho ho."
I've compiled a list of awesome things you can steal with this card, just in case you doubt its usefulness or efficacy. This is not exhaustive. I left out useless vanilla stuff and stuff that's only valuable for its Battlecry, as well as a few others that just aren't very competitive:
Acolyte of Pain
Gurubashi Berserker (unbuffed)
Leokk (Animal Companion)
Maexxna (the highest-value thing you can steal with a Cabal Shadow-Priest)
Questing Adventurer (unbuffed)
Scavenging Hyena (unbuffed)
