Bane of Doom
Deal 2 damage to a character. If that kills it, summon a random Demon.
My advice to you is to avoid Doom, if possible.
When used to kill an opponent this still summons a random demon.
This card is used in
7.52% of all Warlock decks
Very similar to the original Warlock spell Curse of Doom! Back in Vanilla that spell had a chance to proc a Demon on death. Always added hilarity to a fight.
Fun fact: The artist that did this card also developed the band Disturbed's album cover art.
The random Demons that can be summoned by Bane of Doom are:

Their Battlecries do not trigger as the summoned Demon is not played from your hand.
If you kill the enemy (hero) with Bane of Doom, the irrelevant random Demon will still be summoned.
If you already have 7 minions on the board (the board limit), the random minion will not be summoned.
Bane of Doom cannot summon Legendaries unlike

In order to evaluate this card properly, the spell effects should be viewed as a combination of 2 things:
Deal 2 damage.
Summon a "random" demon if you kill it.
Generally speaking, it costs 2 mana to draw a card. Most spells that draw M cards do so (2M-1) mana, where the -1 accounts for the fact that you are using a card itself. A number of spells support this (
Generally speaking, it also costs 1 mana to deal 1 damage. Generally, a spell that does P damage costs P-1 mana, where again the -1 accounts for the card slot used in your deck for the damage spell itself. (
, etc), with the exception of Mages where their direct damage spells cost 1 less mana under this, or has additional benefits such as Freezing.
Hammer of Wrath
, this spell looks fine as well, it is dealing 3 damage (worth 3 mana) and drawing a card (worth 2 mana) for the price of a card in your hand (-1 mana), so the spell costs 3+2-1=4 mana. Even both choices of

From all this, we can conclude that
Deal 2 damage - worth 2 mana.
Summon a "random" demon if you kill it - It better be worth 3 mana.
Obviously, if your 2 damage does not kill anything, this spell is almost worthless, you might as well not cast it if that something you used it on is going to live for another round anyway. So we assume that you do use it to kill something. The question is, is the random minion worth 3 mana?
(1 mana, 3/2, Battlecry: Deal 3 damage to your hero)
(2 mana, 4/3, Battlecry: Discard a random card)
(3 mana, 3/5, Taunt, Battlecry: Destroy one of your Mana Crystals)
You will see that these 3 minions above have negative Battlecries which won't be triggered if they are summoned by Bane of Doom. Without the negative battlecries, their respective mana cost would likely have been higher, 2 for the Flame Imp (Comparison:
which has Beast type instead of Demon), 3 for the Succubus and 4 for the Felguard (Comparison:
). This is probably an over-evaluation by maybe 0.5 mana because all class cards are supposed to be slightly better than their neutral card counterparts by roughly 0.5 mana (example:
(1 mana, 1/3, Taunt)
(1 mana, 0/1, Stealth, At end of turn, give +1 hp to another friendly minion)
(6 mana, 6/6, Battlecry: Deal 1 damage to ALL other characters)
Of these other 3 minions, the first 2 are only worth 1 mana each. The last one is worth maybe 5.5 mana with a Battlecry that can be good or bad depending on the situation, but generally a 6 mana minion would be a 6/7 if the card text was blank (see
So the "random minion worths" are 2, 3, 4, 1, 1, 5.5 respectively, and this averages out to 2.75 mana, and this is with the point mentioned earlier that the first 3 minions (of cost 2, 3 and 4) are probably a slight over-evaluation. All of this, of course, assumes that each of the possible random demons that can be summoned have an equal chance of being selected.
We can also look at the card in reverse, by looking at minions that have a Battlecry that deal 2 damage, notably the
Keeper of the Grove
, both of which are class cards. The SI7 requires comboing to deal its 2 damage, while the Bane of Doom requires killing something to summon the random minion.
By comparing this way, it is arguable that the randomly summoned minion should be at least a plain 4/3 or 3/4 to be worth its 5 mana cost, since the SI7 is a 3/3 for 3 mana (requires combo, so usually requires more mana on hand to cast something else first), and the Keeper is a 2/4 for 4 mana.
Only the Dread Infernal and Succubus fit this criteria, the other 4 possible minions fall way below.
Bane of Doom is a "below average" card. Even more so because the minion that is summoned is random.
If this could summon jaraxxus, holy christ.
Whenever you play a card, summon a 2/1 Flame of Azzinoth.
Burn Baby Burn!
Putting this in a deck with spell damage makes it even better. You can kill most minions with it and get the summoned demon.
Before you make the mistake I did, if you use this card, and kill
with it, the demon is summoned before the Deathrattle effect takes place. You will not be amused, when you hand a 6/6 Infernal to your opponent in exchange for a 5/5 creature.

Got to use this 3 times in Arena and got Blood Imp x2 and a Voidwalker. Not sure if this is just RNG or if the chance to summon each minion is different.
i dunno about you guys, but i think it's unfair that this card doesn't say that it can't summon Jaraxxus... i mean, i know the card says summon a random demon, but if he's the only demon in your deck and it doesn't summon him, i'd be pissed. I almost crafted this card for a combo like that; good thing i read this first. Though it would still only make him a 3/15 (it ignored ETB effects)
I have made it up to very high ranks as warlock, but still don't find it useful. Syphon Soul is much more impressive.
too bad that you cant get illidan through this card.
I think this is an underrated spell. If you are building your Warlock for + spell damage, not portal/pint summoner minion flooding, then you can easily get this thing to hit for 4-5 damage, killing most minions, AND get a minion on the board while doing so. Spell damage will make this hit harder, making it a good alternative to the portal if you're taking spell damage minions. Rather than drop a portal, drop minions with spell damage then nuke with this.
If you use it to finish of your opponent it will spawn the demon before their portrait shatters.Just to add insult to injury.
The price of this card is currently too high, if it was changed to 3 then it would become over powered but 4 would be a decent balance considering the randomness of the demon's as well as it not always killing due to only 2 damage
If something is "Bane of X" that means it is bad for X.
Doom is bad.
If something is bad for something bad, it is good.
Therefore this spell should be a priest spell.

Seen from this perspective lowers the requirement on the summoned demon making the deal okay for one of demons, good for two of them, very good for the
and bad for the last two.
Now you can argue drawing a card from your deck is potential more worth than drawing one demon out of a fixed pool. Making it not so clear where the card is standing.
If you look at it as a minion, look at each of the demons, however remove any battlecry and add the text: "Battlecry: Deal 2 damage"
Now lets compare them to
The first three have worse stats while the latter three have better stats, making it a coin flip.
You can argue that in a warlock deck having demons is an advantage (for the warlock). Still there are not enough synergies with other cards at the moment.
Now since its a spell, it is affected by spell damage, which is a plus.
All in all the card is average and dependent on RNG, which make players wary.
One element not mentioned here in terms of viability - regardless of the demon that is summoned,
at can get you out of a jam if you don't have any demons on the board. This mechanism (in my opinion) offsets the random penalty as well since you can choose to keep or consume the demon.

Or you only have16.67% to get any other 3 stronger demon (

Despite of it won't trigger negative battlecry of
, it will not worth because to chance to get weak demon is much more higher.
Frankly, this card is not worth 5 mana at all.
